The 28th Western Zonal Council Meeting was held at Dona Paula, Goa, on September 7, 2026, under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the meeting, which focused on common issues, inter-state coordination and regional development.
Goa Becomes Centre of Western Region Coordination
The meeting in Dona Paula brought together senior representatives from Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, providing an important platform to address matters requiring cooperation between the states and the Centre.

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Western Zonal Council, participated in the deliberations alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Praful Patel, Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar were also present.
The Western Zonal Council serves as a forum for states and Union Territories to discuss issues that affect more than one state and to find solutions through dialogue and coordination. Such meetings help strengthen the spirit of cooperative federalism by bringing state governments and the Union Government together on a common platform.
The 28th meeting provided an opportunity for the participating governments to exchange views on issues concerning regional development, governance and inter-state cooperation. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the respective state governments also participated in the discussions.
