The Government of Goa has honoured meritorious teachers with the CM-Vashishtha Guru Puraskar 2025–26, recognising their exemplary work, dedication and contribution towards strengthening education and shaping the future of students across the State.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant described teachers as the foundation of society and emphasised that their role extends far beyond teaching academic subjects. He said teachers shape the character, values, confidence and aspirations of generations, making them among the most important influences in a child’s life.
The Chief Minister also highlighted how the role of teachers has become even more significant in an age of information overload, with educators increasingly serving as mentors, guides and role models.
Celebrating Goa’s Teachers
The award ceremony celebrated the dedication of educators working across Goa’s education system. CM Sawant appreciated teachers who continue to make a difference in the lives of students, including those working in challenging circumstances and going beyond their formal responsibilities.
He acknowledged the personal sacrifices made by teachers who stay after school hours, mentor students, support families and provide guidance whenever students need it.
The Chief Minister underlined that behind many successful individuals is often a teacher who believed in them before they believed in themselves.
Building on Goa’s Education Legacy
CM Sawant highlighted Goa’s strong tradition of quality education, high literacy and committed educators. He appreciated the contribution of government, aided and private schools in ensuring that children across the State have access to educational opportunities.
He stressed that this legacy must continue to evolve as the needs of students and society change.

Education Beyond Rote Learning
The Chief Minister highlighted the transformation being brought about through the National Education Policy 2020, with education moving from rote learning towards competency-based and experiential learning.
He emphasised the importance of foundational literacy and numeracy, critical thinking and creativity, while also calling for greater integration of vocational education, skill development, sports, arts and values.
CM Sawant also stressed the importance of multilingualism and preserving Goa’s rich cultural and linguistic heritage.
Technology and AI as Tools for Teachers
Addressing the growing influence of technology and artificial intelligence, the Chief Minister said technology should be treated as a powerful tool rather than a replacement for teachers.
He noted that AI can assist educators, but qualities such as empathy, human connection, values and inspiration cannot be automated.
He encouraged teachers to remain lifelong learners and keep pace with digital tools, AI, coding, robotics and other emerging technologies.
Success Beyond Examination Marks
CM Sawant emphasised that the success of education should not be measured only through examination scores and board results.
He called for greater focus on character, creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, emotional and social development and physical fitness.
He stressed that the real measure of a school is not simply how many students achieve high marks, but how many grow into responsible, compassionate and capable citizens.

Teachers as Leaders and Mentors
The Chief Minister encouraged teachers to continuously upgrade their skills, experiment with innovative teaching methods and share best practices with their peers.
He said educators should be recognised as education leaders, rather than merely classroom instructors, and urged them to prepare students for a future shaped by rapid technological and social change.
Preparing Students for the Future
CM Sawant called for an education system that nurtures entrepreneurship, problem-solving, innovation and adaptability.
He emphasised that children must be prepared not only for the jobs of today but also for careers and challenges that may not yet exist.
He also called for schools to create safe, inclusive and supportive environments where every child feels heard, valued and capable of succeeding.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of instilling ethics, integrity, empathy and respect among students, enabling them to become responsible citizens who value democracy, constitutional principles, the environment and society.
The CM-Vashishtha Guru Puraskar 2025–26 thus served as a tribute to the educators whose dedication continues to strengthen Goa’s education system and shape the citizens of tomorrow.
