Goa Fire Emergencies Now Under ERSS-112: Dial 112, Not 101

Goa has integrated its Fire & Emergency Services with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112, bringing fire-related emergency calls under the state’s centralised emergency response network. Citizens can now dial 112 for fire emergencies in Goa, while calls made to the existing 101 fire helpline will be automatically redirected to the ERSS-112 Public Safety Answering Point for further action.

The move aims to streamline emergency communication, improve coordination, and ensure faster processing and dispatch of fire emergency calls across Goa.

Goa Fire Services Integrated With ERSS-112

The integration of Goa Fire & Emergency Services with ERSS-112 places fire emergencies within the state’s central emergency response mechanism. When a citizen reports a fire or other genuine emergency, the ERSS-112 system receives and processes the call before coordinating the required response.

Citizens who continue to dial 101 will not be left without assistance. Calls to the existing toll-free number will be automatically redirected to the ERSS-112 Public Safety Answering Point, where the emergency can be processed and dispatched to the appropriate response team.

However, authorities have advised the public to use 112 as the primary emergency number for fire-related incidents.

What Should You Tell 112 During a Fire Emergency?

When reporting a fire, callers should provide clear and accurate information to help emergency responders reach the location quickly.

Citizens should mention:

  • Exact location of the incident
  • Nature of the emergency
  • Nearby landmarks or identifiable locations
  • Any other information that can help responders locate the site

Providing accurate location details is particularly important during fire emergencies, where every minute can matter.

Fire Station Landlines Reserved For Official Use

Authorities have also advised citizens not to contact individual fire station landlines for emergencies. These numbers are now intended primarily for official and administrative communication.

For an actual fire or other emergency requiring immediate assistance, citizens should use the central 112 emergency number instead. This allows the call to enter the designated emergency response network and enables the appropriate authorities to coordinate the response.

Citizens Urged To Avoid False Calls

The authorities have appealed to citizens to use the emergency system responsibly and make calls to 112 only for genuine emergencies.

False, prank, or frivolous calls can occupy emergency communication channels and potentially divert resources away from people who need urgent assistance. Responsible use of the emergency helpline will help Goa maintain an efficient and responsive emergency service.

A More Centralised Emergency Response For Goa

The integration of Fire & Emergency Services with ERSS-112 strengthens Goa’s centralised emergency response framework. By routing fire emergency calls through a common response system, the initiative seeks to improve communication between callers and emergency responders while ensuring that incidents are processed through the appropriate channel.

For residents and visitors in Goa, the key change is simple: for fire emergencies, dial 112. While calls to 101 will continue to be redirected, using 112 directly is the recommended way to seek emergency assistance.

The initiative reinforces Goa’s focus on strengthening emergency response systems and improving public safety through coordinated and accessible emergency services.
