Modern Transport Hub for Bicholim

The Redevelopment of KTC Bus Stand at Bicholim has been undertaken by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for the Directorate of Transport. The project has an awarded cost of approximately ₹16.43 crore, with the facility spread across a plot area of around 5,730 sq m and a built-up area of approximately 1,205 sq m.

Designed with commuter convenience and safety at its core, the bus stand separates pedestrian and vehicular movement, ensuring that passenger movement does not interfere with buses operating within the terminal.

The facility has been designed as a barrier-free environment, with an access ramp at the ground level and an elevator providing access to the upper floors.

The new bus stand includes eight alighting and departing bus bays along with four bus waiting bays, allowing smoother movement and management of buses.

Shops, Café, ATM and Transport Offices Under One Roof

The ground floor of the facility houses the main bus stand along with 11 shops, an ATM space, café and kitchen facilities. The first floor accommodates RTO offices and the office of the Assistant Director of Transport, bringing key transport-related services together within the transportation hub.

The second floor features a meeting room, training room and restrooms for drivers, conductors, traffic controllers and other staff.

For last-mile connectivity, the project also includes separate spaces for 10 taxis and 10 autorickshaws. Parking facilities have been provided for approximately 50 two-wheelers and 15 four-wheelers.

The terminal also features CCTV surveillance and a public address system to improve security, communication and commuter convenience.

Bicholim to Get a Master Plan

Speaking about Bicholim’s future development, CM Dr. Pramod Sawant said the state government will soon begin work on a master plan for the rapidly expanding town.

The proposed planning exercise is aimed at ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with Bicholim’s growth. It is expected to address critical areas such as underground cabling, IT networks, sewage infrastructure and overall urban development.

The Chief Minister also said that the government plans to explore ways of connecting bus stands in rural areas with interstate transport, potentially improving public transport access for people living beyond major urban centres.

The development of the Bicholim Bus Stand, therefore, represents more than an upgrade to an existing transport facility. With interstate connectivity, commuter-focused infrastructure and a broader master-planning exercise in the pipeline, the project forms part of Goa’s efforts to build modern, connected and future-ready public infrastructure.
