AAP and Goa Forward Party (GFP) are set to join hands to form an anti-BJP, anti-Congress political front ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, according to political sources. The proposed alliance is expected to operate under the “Goa First” banner, with other regional outfits and sidelined Congress leaders also being considered. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal is likely to announce the new front formally.
If Vijai Sardesai is indeed preparing to join hands with AAP for a new “Goa First” front, the bigger question is not whether another alliance is being formed, but why a leader who has built his politics around Goa’s regional identity is now looking towards an outsider party.

Goa’s next Assembly election could turn into a three-way contest, with the BJP defending its position, Congress trying to retain its opposition space, and a proposed AAP-led “Goa First” front seeking to create a new political pole. The real battle may be over whether this front can consolidate the anti-BJP vote or merely divide it further.
An Outsider Party For A “Goa First” Front?
According to political observers, this is the most confusing part of the entire development.
Vijai Sardesai has spent years claiming himself as a regional political voice. Even though he says his politics is associated with Goa’s identity and regional interests, he has joined political forces that are seen as outsiders.
The emerging “Goa First” formula reportedly places AAP at the centre of the proposed alliance, which creates an obvious political contradiction.
If the objective is to put Goa first, why does Sardesai need an outsider national party to build that platform?
The partnership, therefore, could be less about ideology and more about political opportunism.

Is Congress Losing Its Own Opposition Space?
The second major question concerns Congress.
If “Goa First” attracts Congress leaders who feel ignored or sidelined, the front could quickly become more than an AAP-GFP arrangement. It could become a political shelter for Congress-sidelined defectors.
There is another way to look at it. Political analysts are asking whether the emergence of such a front ultimately helps Congress by allowing the party to shed some of its internal challengers.
If disgruntled leaders leave Congress and join “Goa First”, Congress could potentially emerge with a smaller but more manageable internal structure.
There is no basis to say this is a deliberate Congress strategy. But politically, it is a possibility worth examining.
The irony would be striking: a third front created to challenge the established Opposition could end up being another front with Congress presence.
The real question is therefore simple: Will “Goa First” become a genuine political alternative, or merely a new home for leaders searching for political space?
