Goa has moved to make Konkani knowledge a requirement for eligible Central Government jobs in the state, creating a potential new pathway for local youth. Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said the Centre has approved the proposal he raised during the Goa Assembly session. The move follows efforts by the Goa Government to address concerns over employment opportunities for Goan youth in Central Government departments. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had earlier assured that the government would work towards finding a solution.
Konkani Requirement Gets Central Approval
Central Government departments operating in Goa could now require candidates to have knowledge of Konkani for relevant recruitment, according to Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar.
Amonkar said he had raised the issue during the Goa Assembly session after observing difficulties faced by local youth in accessing jobs in Central Government departments.
He said the Centre has now accepted the Goa Government’s demand and approved the Konkani language requirement for Central Government jobs in Goa.
The development could give local candidates a greater opportunity to meet language-related eligibility requirements when applying for relevant positions.

CM Sawant Had Assured Action
Amonkar said he had raised the employment issue in the Assembly and sought a solution to help Goan youth access Central Government employment opportunities.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had assured that the Goa Government would take steps to address the matter.
Following discussions and efforts by the state government, Amonkar said the Centre has accepted the proposal.
The move places Konkani knowledge at the centre of the recruitment discussion for Central Government establishments functioning in Goa.
