As Goa celebrates Ganapati Bappa, the CM Sawant Government is combining welfare support, local entrepreneurship, and cultural initiatives to make Chavath more supportive for families and more visible for Goa’s traditions.
Ganesh Chaturthi, known as Chavath in Goa, goes far beyond religious celebrations. It brings families together, fills homes with traditional decorations and food, and creates increased demand for local products, artisans, and community enterprises.
This year, the Goa Government has introduced and strengthened several initiatives that connect directly with the festive season, from LPG assistance and enhanced social-security support to Chavthicho Bazaar for local entrepreneurs and Aamchi Chavath 2026 to showcase Goa’s traditions digitally.
Goa Ujjwala Yojana Brings LPG Support to Families
One of the key initiatives launched ahead of Chaturthi is the Goa Ujjwala Yojana, which provides eligible households financial assistance equivalent to the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders in a financial year.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive ₹3,000 annually through Direct Benefit Transfer, with the State Government allocating ₹100 crore for implementation.
The scheme provides support without an income criterion, while only one domestic LPG connection per family is eligible. The first assistance has begun reaching eligible beneficiaries ahead of Chaturthi, giving families timely support during a period when household expenses often increase.
By directly supporting cooking-fuel expenses, the initiative adds another layer of assistance for Goan households during the festive season.

DSSS and Griha Aadhar Support Set to Increase
The Goa Government has also announced an increase in financial assistance under the Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS) and Griha Aadhar Scheme.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant reiterated the decision in September, stating that the increase was already provided for in the State Budget.
The two schemes form an important part of Goa’s social-security system, supporting women, senior citizens, widows and other vulnerable beneficiaries.
The Government has also focused on making monthly assistance more predictable. Since March 2026, DSSS and Griha Aadhar payments have been scheduled for credit by the 10th of every month, helping beneficiaries receive their assistance in a more timely manner.
With the announced increase, the Government is seeking to provide greater financial support to beneficiaries while strengthening Goa’s welfare network.

Chavthicho Bazaar Gives Local Goan Businesses a Festive Platform
Chavath is not only a time of family celebrations but also an important period for local producers, women entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups and rural businesses.
Through Swayampurna Goa, the Government has introduced Chavthicho Bazaar, a festive marketplace designed to give local entrepreneurs, SHGs and rural communities a platform to showcase and sell their products during Chaturthi.
The initiative strengthens the Vocal for Local approach by bringing Goan-made products closer to consumers when festive demand is high.
For women entrepreneurs and community-based businesses, the bazaar creates an opportunity to gain visibility, reach more customers, and generate income. For consumers, it offers greater access to locally produced goods while supporting Goa’s grassroots economy.
The initiative therefore connects the festive season with local entrepreneurship, rural livelihoods and economic opportunities.
Aamchi Chavath 2026 Takes Goa’s Traditions to a Wider Audience
The Government’s Chavath initiatives also extend into the digital space.
The Department of Art and Culture has launched Aamchi Chavath 2026, a state-wide online competition designed to celebrate Goa’s unique Ganesh Chaturthi traditions, creativity and festive spirit.
The initiative seeks to showcase Goa’s Chavath celebrations beyond the state by using social media and digital platforms to reach audiences across India and internationally.
The competition features five categories:
- Matoli Decoration
- Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Dekhava
- Family Tradition Video/Reel
- Ganpati Song Singing
- Ganpati Stotra Recitation
Together, these categories capture the many ways Goans celebrate Chavath, from traditional home decorations and community celebrations to family customs, devotional music and prayers.

Keeping Goa’s Chavath Traditions Alive
The cultural initiatives also encourage Goans to actively participate in preserving traditions that have been passed down through generations.
The Matoli Decoration Competition, for instance, encourages families to showcase the traditional use of natural and locally available materials that form an important part of Goa’s Chaturthi celebrations.
Similarly, the Dekhava Competition allows Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals to showcase their creativity while keeping community celebrations and cultural traditions at the centre of Chavath.
By turning these traditions into platforms for participation and recognition, the initiatives encourage younger generations to engage with Goa’s cultural practices.
A Chavath That Supports Families, Livelihoods and Heritage
