The Goa Government has placed women at the centre of the Goa Ujjwala Scheme, urging households to apply in the name of female members to receive priority under the initiative. The scheme provides ₹3,000 annually to cover the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant released the first instalment of ₹3,000 to eligible beneficiaries in the presence of Civil Supplies Secretary Sanjiv Gadkar and Director Jayant Tari.
Women at the Centre of Goa’s LPG Support
The Goa Government has specifically designed the scheme to extend LPG support to women and households that need assistance with rising cooking fuel costs. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant appealed to citizens to ensure that applications are submitted in the name of women wherever possible.
Sawant clarified that the name on the LPG connection does not determine eligibility for priority under the scheme. Even when the gas connection is registered in a man’s name, the household can apply through its female member.
The Chief Minister said the government expects the overwhelming majority of applications to be submitted by women. Applications where a man has filled the form but attached his wife’s bank passbook will also be considered and scrutinised, he clarified.
In specific circumstances, male applicants can also qualify, including cases where a man has lost his wife.

First ₹3,000 Instalment Released
The government has begun releasing the first instalment of ₹3,000, equivalent to the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders under the Goa Ujjwala Scheme.
Women beneficiaries receiving assistance under the Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS) and Griha Aadhar will receive the payment during the first phase. The government has started the disbursement for scrutinised applications, with payments being staggered over the coming days.
The staggered release takes into account the bank strike, weekend and Ganesh festival holiday, after which further payments will continue for eligible beneficiaries.
DSSS and Griha Aadhar Benefits Remain Safe
The government has also addressed concerns among existing welfare beneficiaries over whether receiving the Ujjwala benefit could affect their other government assistance.
Sawant clarified that receiving the Goa Ujjwala benefit will not discontinue or affect benefits under DSSS and Griha Aadhar.
This clarification is significant for women already receiving these welfare benefits, as the Ujjwala scheme adds LPG support without replacing their existing assistance.
Scheme to Continue Beyond This Year
The Chief Minister also assured beneficiaries that the Goa Ujjwala Scheme will continue next year, giving households greater certainty over the LPG assistance.
He urged citizens not to be influenced by what he described as false propaganda regarding the continuation of welfare schemes. The government, he said, will continue providing the announced benefits while keeping the Ujjwala initiative in force beyond the current year.
With the first payments now reaching beneficiaries, the Goa Ujjwala Scheme represents another direct household-support measure, with the government placing women, cooking fuel affordability and welfare continuity at the heart of its implementation.
