The Goa Government is set to implement another One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to help citizens clear their long-pending electricity and water bill arrears. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly that the government has already implemented the OTS scheme three times in the last five years, but several consumers still have outstanding dues.
Final Opportunity For Consumers To Clear Arrears
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the government has decided to implement the last One-Time Settlement scheme as arrears continue to remain with several consumers.
The scheme is aimed at providing relief to consumers with accumulated electricity and water bill dues by offering a settlement mechanism that can help reduce the additional financial burden arising from long-pending arrears.
The government’s decision comes after multiple OTS initiatives were implemented over the past five years. Despite these efforts, a section of consumers continues to have outstanding utility bills. The latest scheme is therefore intended to give such consumers another opportunity to settle their dues.
Scheme Aims To Help Consumers And Recover Dues
The OTS scheme is expected to benefit consumers who have struggled to clear their old electricity and water bills because of accumulated charges. By providing concessions under the settlement mechanism, the government aims to make it easier for eligible consumers to regularise their accounts.
At the same time, the initiative will help the government and concerned departments recover long-pending revenue from unpaid utility bills.
Chief Minister Sawant’s announcement highlights the government’s continued focus on resolving outstanding utility dues while providing consumers with an opportunity to settle their liabilities.
Consumers will need to follow the conditions and payment provisions announced by the concerned departments to avail themselves of the benefits under the scheme.
