Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced that a permanent office for the Koti Tirth project has been established, marking another step towards the revival and development of the historic site. He also said that the government plans to develop Gopakapattana Port, highlighting the importance of Goa’s ancient maritime and cultural heritage.
Koti Tirth Revival Gains Momentum
Speaking about the historical significance of the region, CM Sawant said the remains at the site offer valuable evidence of Goa’s rich architectural legacy. He noted that the structure popularly associated with the Adil Shah Palace was not built by Adil Shah, but dates back to the Kadamba period.
According to the Chief Minister, the surviving architectural remains reflect Goa’s development across centuries, particularly from the 10th to the 14th century. The heritage structures provide an important glimpse into the state’s historical architecture and the civilisation that flourished in the region.
The establishment of a permanent office for Koti Tirth is expected to provide an institutional base for the project and help coordinate its restoration, development and heritage-related activities.

Gopakapattana Port To Be Developed
CM Sawant also announced plans for the development of Gopakapattana Port, placing Goa’s historic maritime identity alongside its heritage conservation efforts.
Gopakapattana holds an important place in Goa’s ancient history as a prominent port associated with the region’s trade and maritime connections. Its proposed development is aimed at bringing greater attention to Goa’s historical significance as a centre of commerce and cultural exchange.
The Chief Minister’s announcements underline the government’s focus on preserving Goa’s heritage while developing historic locations as important cultural and tourism destinations.
With the Koti Tirth project moving forward and plans for Gopakapattana Port taking shape, the initiatives are expected to strengthen efforts to reconnect present-day Goa with its architectural, cultural and maritime past.
