Goa Medical College (GMC) is set for a major infrastructure transformation, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announcing plans to develop the campus into a “five-star campus” with upgraded facilities, improved connectivity and a more modern environment for students, patients and medical professionals.
The planned transformation will include underground cabling, improved lighting, landscaping, parking facilities and other infrastructure works through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). The government aims to complete these works by March 2027.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of GMC’s new ₹40-crore Lecture Hall Complex, spread across 5,482 square metres. The complex features three lecture halls with a combined capacity of 1,200 students, along with LED video walls, modern audio-visual systems and facilities for recording, streaming and webcasting.
₹500 Crore Boost for GMC Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also announced that an additional ₹500 crore has been allocated to strengthen GMC and its allied infrastructure.
The allocation includes:
- ₹200 crore for the GMC college block
- ₹106 crore for the Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) hostel
- ₹90 crore for the boys’ hostel
- ₹100 crore for a 100-bed facility and day-care centre at the Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB)
According to CM Sawant, the investments are aimed at strengthening the academic and learning infrastructure required for the next generation of medical professionals.

Super Speciality Block to Be Linked with GMC
Another major component of the plan is to improve connectivity between the Super Speciality Block and the main GMC campus.
CM Sawant said a plan has already been prepared and a consultant appointed for a project that will directly connect the two facilities through an overbridge or a fast-track link.
The proposed connection is expected to help integrate the two facilities into a single unified GMC campus. At present, patients have to be shifted between the two campuses by ambulance.
Push Towards a Modern Medical Campus
The government also emphasised the need for greater adoption of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in healthcare as the medical sector continues to evolve digitally.
With significant infrastructure investments, better connectivity between facilities, modern academic infrastructure and digital healthcare initiatives, the government aims to transform GMC into a more integrated, technology-driven and modern medical campus.
