Passengers in Goa will soon be able to check officially notified taxi fares by simply scanning a QR code, bringing greater transparency and convenience to taxi travel across the state.

QR Codes To Make Goa Taxi Fares Easier To Check

Goa’s taxi services are set to adopt a new QR code-based fare information system, making it easier for passengers to access officially notified taxi rates before or during their journey.

The State Transport Authority (STA) has approved the proposal at its meeting, marking a step towards greater digital transparency in Goa’s taxi sector. The Information Technology Department will now complete the remaining technical work required to implement the system.

Under the proposed arrangement, passengers will be able to scan a QR code and view the notified taxi fares on their smartphones. The move aims to make fare information more accessible and reduce uncertainty for passengers using taxis in Goa.

Taxi Meters To Make Way For Notified Digital Fares

MLA Michael Lobo said taxi meters will no longer be used under the new system. Instead, passengers will be able to refer to the officially notified rates through the QR code mechanism.

Once the new taxi rates receive official notification, the digital system will provide passengers with a simple way to check the applicable fare information.

The move can also help create greater clarity between passengers and taxi operators by giving both sides access to the same officially notified fare information.

GoaMiles To Follow The Same Notified Rates

The new fare structure will also extend to GoaMiles services once the rates are officially notified.

This means passengers using both traditional taxi services and GoaMiles will have a common reference point for the applicable fares. The move could bring greater consistency to taxi fare information across different services operating in Goa.

Digital Push For A More Passenger-Friendly Taxi System

The QR-based system represents another step towards bringing digital technology into Goa’s public transport services. Instead of depending solely on physical meters or asking drivers about applicable rates, passengers will have a digital method to access official fare information.

For tourists and residents alike, easy access to notified taxi rates can make taxi travel more convenient and transparent.

As the IT Department completes the remaining work and the new rates are officially notified, Goa’s taxi sector is expected to move towards a more transparent, technology-enabled fare information system.
