The Goa Government, through the Goa Directorate of Agriculture, has launched a Digital Crop Survey (DCS) across the state to create accurate, real-time records of crops cultivated in agricultural fields. The initiative is being implemented under the Government of India’s AgriStack programme and uses a mobile-based system to digitally capture crop information.
The digital records are expected to help the government improve agricultural planning and ensure that farmer schemes, subsidies and other agricultural assistance can be delivered more effectively.

Digital Mapping of Goa’s Agricultural Fields
Under the Digital Crop Survey, official surveyors are visiting agricultural fields across Goa and recording details of the crops currently being cultivated. Farmers have been requested to cooperate with the survey teams and provide information about the crops and varieties grown during the current season.
The initiative is part of AgriStack, India’s digital agriculture infrastructure designed to create farmer-centric digital records and improve the delivery of agricultural services. AgriStack includes registries covering farmers, geo-referenced village maps and crops sown.
How the Survey Can Help Farmers
Accurate crop data can give the government a clearer picture of what is being cultivated, where it is being cultivated and the scale of cultivation. This information can support better planning of agricultural schemes, subsidies and assistance.
The Centre’s digital agriculture framework also envisages using crop and farmer data to improve access to services such as crop insurance, credit, procurement systems and weather-related advisories.
For Goa, having updated crop information can help the Agriculture Department make more informed decisions on crop planning, resource allocation and farmer support, while reducing dependence on outdated or manually collected information.

Survey Is Not About Land Ownership
The Agriculture Department has clarified that the Digital Crop Survey is limited to recording crop-related information. It is not a survey of land ownership, land titles or tenancy rights. The exercise focuses specifically on documenting what is being cultivated in agricultural fields.
The department has appealed to farmers across Goa to cooperate with the survey teams during field visits. With more accurate and timely agricultural data, the initiative aims to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and make government support more responsive to farmers’ needs.
