Goa Government Opens New Doors for Inclusion, Access and Independence

The Goa Government has inaugurated a new disability-friendly office at Porvorim designed to make disability-related services and grievance redressal more accessible under one roof. The facility also features the Infiniway navigation app to help users, including persons with visual disabilities, navigate offices and facilities. Alongside this, the Goa Disability Empowerment Department is reserving stalls for persons with disabilities at fairs, markets and public spaces to support small entrepreneurs, promote product sales and encourage economic independence.

Goa Government Strengthens Disability Services with New Accessible Office

The Goa Government has inaugurated a new disability-friendly office aimed at improving access to public services for persons with disabilities.

The facility has been designed to provide disability-related services and address grievances under one roof, making it easier for citizens to approach the concerned authorities and access assistance.

The initiative forms part of Goa’s broader efforts to create a more accessible and inclusive public-service environment where persons with disabilities can interact with government institutions with greater ease and independence.

A major feature of the new facility is Infiniway, a navigation application designed to help users find their way around government premises.

Goa’s Digital Compass for Effortless Accessibility

The Infiniway app adds a digital accessibility component to Goa’s disability-friendly infrastructure.

The navigation system can help users identify offices, cabins, departments, and individuals within the building, making it easier to navigate an unfamiliar government facility.

This can be particularly useful for persons with visual disabilities, who may face additional challenges when locating specific offices or service points inside large public buildings.

By combining accessible physical infrastructure with digital navigation, the initiative aims to make government services more convenient and user-friendly for persons with disabilities.

Supporting Entrepreneurship Among Persons with Disabilities

In another major step towards economic empowerment of persons with disabilities, the Goa Disability Empowerment Department is reserving stalls for persons with disabilities at fairs, markets and public spaces across Goa.

The initiative is aimed at supporting small entrepreneurs with disabilities by providing them with opportunities to display and sell their products directly to customers.

Guidelines have been issued for the initiative, and the system is already being implemented at various fairs and markets across Goa.

The move provides persons with disabilities with greater access to public marketplaces and creates opportunities to participate in commercial activities without having to depend entirely on traditional employment.

From Accessibility to Economic Independence

The two initiatives address different but interconnected aspects of disability empowerment.

The new disability-friendly office focuses on accessible government services and grievance redressal, while Infiniway addresses the challenge of navigating public buildings.

The reserved stalls initiative, meanwhile, focuses on livelihoods, entrepreneurship and economic participation.

Together, these measures represent a broader approach to disability inclusion in Goa one that goes beyond physical accessibility and focuses on helping persons with disabilities access services, participate in public life and pursue economic opportunities.

A Wider Push for Inclusive Governance

Goa’s latest initiatives point towards a model of governance that places greater emphasis on accessibility, inclusion and empowerment.

The use of digital navigation technology can make public buildings easier to access, while dedicated facilities can simplify interactions with government departments.

At the same time, reserving stalls at fairs and markets can help entrepreneurs with disabilities gain access to customers and develop their businesses.

The combined approach can help shift the focus from welfare alone towards participation, independence and empowerment.

What These Initiatives Mean for Persons with Disabilities in Goa

For persons with disabilities across Goa, the initiatives could create benefits in several areas.

In government services, the new disability-friendly office can provide a more accessible point for services and grievance redressal.

In mobility and navigation, Infiniway can help users identify offices, cabins, and facilities within government premises.

In entrepreneurship, reserved stalls at fairs and markets can provide opportunities to showcase and sell products.

In economic empowerment, greater access to markets can support self-employment and income generation.

Together, these initiatives seek to create a more inclusive environment where persons with disabilities can access public services while also building greater economic independence.
