Prachi Shirodkar Brings Goa’s Craft Heritage To The Screen

Prachi Shirodkar directed, shot and narrated Bhaangar Kalakusar Karigiri, while Mario Pimenta edited the documentary. The film explores the craftsmanship, heritage and everyday realities of Goa’s traditional goldsmith community.

Through detailed visual storytelling, the documentary takes viewers into the world of traditional gold craftsmanship. It captures the techniques, skills and knowledge that artisans have preserved and passed from one generation to the next.

The documentary features Goan artisans Rashila Shirodkar, Virendra Rivankar and Pranay Shirodkar. Their experiences and craftsmanship give the film an authentic perspective on Goa’s traditional goldsmithing practices.

Documenting A Generational Craft

Bhaangar Kalakusar Karigiri highlights more than the technical aspects of goldsmithing. It explores the cultural value of a traditional craft and the role artisans play in keeping Goa’s heritage alive.

The documentary also records the lived realities of artisans and the generational knowledge behind their work. By placing their stories at the centre, the film creates a visual record of a craft that remains closely connected to Goa’s cultural identity.

Don Bosco College, Panjim produced the documentary under the guidance of Agnelo D’Souza. The project combines filmmaking with cultural documentation and gives traditional Goan craftsmanship a wider platform.
