Goa is strengthening its presence in India’s sporting landscape, moving beyond its identity as a popular tourist destination. The Yonex Sunrise G.H. Raisoni Memorial All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026 is underway at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim from October 23 to 30, bringing together around 960 young badminton players from across the country.
The eight-day national-level championship has attracted participants from more than 25 states and Union Territories, including several Junior India players. The tournament provides a platform for some of India’s promising young shuttlers to compete, demonstrate their abilities and gain valuable experience at a national-level event.
Young Shuttlers Compete for National Rankings
The championship gives junior players an opportunity to test their skills against competitors from different parts of India. Participants will compete for honours and valuable national ranking points, which can support their progress in the junior badminton circuit.
With a strong field of young athletes taking part, the tournament is expected to feature competitive matches across the different categories. For the players, the event offers an opportunity to assess their performance, learn from their opponents and gain experience that can help them prepare for future competitions.
From Tourism to Sports
Goa is widely recognised for its beaches, heritage and tourism industry. However, hosting national level sporting competitions also highlights the state’s role as a venue for athletic events. The arrival of hundreds of young players from across India brings national sporting attention to Navelim and showcases the facilities available for indoor sports.
The Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium provides the venue for this championship, allowing players to compete in a dedicated indoor sporting facility. Events of this scale also give local audiences an opportunity to watch emerging badminton talent and engage with competitive sport.
As the tournament continues until October 30, Navelim will remain a meeting point for aspiring badminton players from across the country. The championship highlights how Goa can contribute to India’s sporting ecosystem while continuing to attract visitors for its established tourism offerings.
By hosting events that bring together athletes from multiple states and Union Territories, Goa is broadening its profile as a destination for both tourism and sports.
