Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced the inauguration of the much-awaited Porvorim Flyover (Elevated Corridor) on September 10, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Goa’s infrastructure development.
The announcement by the Goa Chief Minister brings a major infrastructural project closer to becoming operational, reflecting the government’s focus on addressing one of the key traffic challenges faced in North Goa.
The corridor is expected to provide smoother connectivity along the busy Porvorim–Guirim stretch of NH-66, which has witnessed increasing traffic over the years.

The 5.15-km, six-lane elevated corridor, built at an estimated cost of ₹641 crore, is among the major infrastructure projects aimed at addressing the growing traffic pressure in North Goa.
Located along the busy NH-66 corridor, this project has been developed to facilitate smoother movement of through-traffic while easing congestion on the roads below.
As per the January 2024 reports, traffic intensity on this stretch had crossed 80,000 passenger car units (PCUs) per day, with the high volume contributing to frequent traffic jams.
The biggest difference for residents could be greater predictability in everyday travel.
For people who regularly use NH-66 between Panaji, Porvorim and Guirim, reducing the uncertainty caused by long traffic queues can make daily journeys easier to plan.
The impact also extends to local businesses. Delivery vehicles, employees and customers frequently depend on the corridor, and congestion on a major road can affect the movement of goods and people.
Better traffic management with the new six-lane could, therefore, support commercial activity along the wider Porvorim area.
The project is also significant for tourism.
Porvorim forms part of the road network used by visitors travelling towards North Goa and between Panaji and the northern parts of the state.
Improved movement on this corridor will make road journeys more convenient for tourists while also benefiting residents who share the same routes.

During periods of heavy congestion, ambulances and other essential vehicles can face difficulty navigating through packed road sections.
Separating through-traffic from local traffic could provide more room for movement on the existing road network.
