This week, the push for Healthcare upgrade got even stronger. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated a new Operation Theatre Complex and launched free Interventional Laser Vein Treatment services at the Community Health Centre, Bicholim.
Here’s why it matters! This minimally invasive laser treatment for varicose veins was, until now, simply not available in government hospitals, patients had to go private, and pay for it. With the upgraded OT and new equipment now in place, patients can access this advanced treatment completely free, right in the government sector.
Bicholim’s sub-district hospital is now the first government hospital in Goa to offer this kind of specialised vascular care.
It’s a small facility upgrade with a big message, advanced care doesn’t have to mean expensive care, and it doesn’t have to mean travelling far from home.
Support That Follows Where You Live, Not Just Who You Are
One of the quieter strengths of Goa’s healthcare model is who it covers.
Under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), the rule isn’t about where you were born, it’s about where you’ve made your home. Anyone who has lived in Goa for five years or more can apply for cashless health coverage of up to ₹6 lakh a year.
