How We Report
Goa Speaks is committed to accurate, fair, and independent journalism. These standards govern everything we publish, across every section of the site.
1. Accuracy & Verification: We verify facts before publication using multiple, credible sources wherever possible. Claims that cannot be independently verified are withheld or clearly labelled as unconfirmed or developing. This applies equally to Live News, where the pressure to publish fast never overrides the requirement to publish right — updates are corrected in place as facts firm up, not left standing.
2. Sourcing & Attribution: We name our sources whenever it is safe and possible to do so. Anonymous sources are used only when a person faces credible risk for speaking on the record and when the information they provide is central to the story — never as a substitute for verification.
3. Editorial Independence: Goa Speaks’ newsroom operates independently of advertisers, sponsors, political parties, and business interests. This is especially firm in our Business & Tourism coverage, where companies we report on may also be commercial advertisers: no advertiser, sponsor, or political affiliate has any influence over editorial decisions, story selection, or coverage angles. Reporters and editors disclose any personal, financial, or political conflict of interest and recuse themselves from related coverage.
4. Fairness & Right of Reply: Any individual or organisation named critically in our reporting — including developers, businesses, or officials covered under Environment & Coastal, Business & Tourism, or On The Record — is given a genuine opportunity to respond before publication. Their response is included, or their declination to comment is noted.
5. Corrections Policy: We correct errors quickly, visibly, and without defensiveness. Corrected articles carry a clear note stating what was changed and when. Readers can flag suspected errors to [editorial contact/email — to be confirmed].
6. Multimedia & Social Content: Content in our Media section, including embedded Instagram posts, is selected and verified by the editorial team before publication. Embedded third-party content does not imply endorsement of the account or platform, and user-generated visuals used in reporting are credited to their source wherever possible.
7. Use of AI: Where AI tools assist with research, transcription, or drafting, all such work is reviewed and verified by a human editor before publication. AI is not used to generate factual claims, quotes, or reporting without human verification. Any AI-generated visuals are clearly labelled as illustrative.
8. Advertising & Sponsored Content: Any sponsored, promoted, or paid content — particularly within Business & Tourism, a category naturally attractive to advertisers — is clearly labelled as such and is visually distinct from independent editorial content. Sponsors have no editorial input into independently reported stories.
9. Goa Report Card Methodology: Our government performance assessments are based on publicly available data, official records, and on-record verification, with methodology disclosed alongside each report so readers can evaluate our findings themselves.
10. Environmental & Coastal Reporting: Reporting under Environment & Coastal draws on official environmental data, scientific and regulatory sources, and on-ground verification. Where claims involve technical or contested data (e.g., coastal erosion, mining impact, CRZ violations), we disclose our sources and methodology alongside the story.
